To achieve a healthy weight it is necessary to watch what you eat. To maintain a healthy weight requires a bit more effort. Exercise. You should be looking to add a period of physical activity to most days of the week for between 30 minutes and an hour. Before you go ahead and start a physical activity regime, though, you should talk to your doctor, especially if you have health problems.
When choosing how to be more active, there are a few things to think about: physical impact; convenience; how much skill is required; and who you are going to work out with.
If you are starting from scratch, you’ll want to consider low impact exercises like walking and swimming and build up from there. Some activities (like walking) may not be possible year round with seasonal changes. This will affect the choices you make for increasing your physical activity. Some activities require some skill level (hand-eye coordination for example) but don’t let that discourage you. And almost as important as making the decision to exercise is finding a partner to enjoy it with. The support of a friend or family member makes it more likely that you’ll stick to your decision and reach your goals.
Start slowly. You should not sense pain while exercising. Some discomfort is normal but you should be able to breath and speak with some comfort while exercising.
