Barbara Hurst, MD
Gynecology
My interest in medicine began as a 9 year old when I got bit by a raccoon while “camping out” in my suburban L.A. yard. I had to get twice daily anti-rabies injections in my abdomen until the raccoon’s brain tested negative. Somewhere in that experience at L.A. County Hospital, I decided I wanted to be a doctor. Always an avid reader, I got books from the library about vaccines, Louis Pasteur, and Marie Curie. I thought I wanted to be a Pediatrician until I did my first clinical rotation in Pediatrics as a junior medical student, and discovered I liked dealing with the moms better! The specialty of Gynecology has been the perfect combination of medicine and surgery. I still love to read and would rather travel and eat than just about anything. I also seem to have an HGTV addiction!
I enjoy the long-term relationships I’ve established with women over the years and now care for some of the grown-up babies I delivered years ago.
