Jon Neilson, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC
Pediatrics
Jon graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies in 2012, then a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2015. Looking to expand his skill set, and broaden his ability to care for his patients, he went back to further his education once more and graduated with a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Utah in 2020. Prior to nursing school, Jon worked as a therapeutic preschool specialist at The Children’s Center in Salt Lake City which was ultimately the defining point that inspired him to seek a long-term career working with, and advocating for, children. He worked as a registered nurse at Primary Children’s Medical Center for over five years while working on his doctorate degree. Following graduation, he practiced family medicine for almost a year when he realized that pediatric and adolescent patients were the most fun and decided to switch to a pediatric care-focused clinic. Now he is excited to join Granger Pediatrics – Riverton and provide superior care for the children and adolescents of this rapidly growing community.
Jon is passionate about volunteer work, particularly in mentoring underprivileged youth. He strongly believes that every child and adolescent need a kind, sensitive, and understanding person that will listen carefully to their concerns and help them feel comfortable and safe, no matter the circumstances.
Helping caregivers, children, and adolescents to understand the importance of health during these early years is at the cornerstone of Jon’s practice; he feels that his patients should be active participants in their care in order to inspire them to prioritize good health and healthy habits as they grow up and transition into young adulthood. Engaging his patients and their family in mutual decision-making is essential for Jon to develop a long-term relationship built on trust. He uses evidence-based practices, backed by high-quality research, to provide effective and compassionate patient care.
When not in the clinic, Jon loves spending time with his fiancé and is looking forward to raising his children in the not-so-distant future. He comes from a close-knit family, he is the middle child of five which includes his twin brother, and they enjoy spending time on the lake in the summertime. He also enjoys watching sports games; he is a huge fan of the University of Utah college football and the Utah Jazz.
